Futsal Eagles to play Egypt for World Cup slot

The Futsal National Team, otherwise known as Futsal Eagles, will aim
to become the third Nigerian National Team to qualify for the FIFA
World Cup this year when it takes on Egypt in the last round of
African qualifiers for the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup finals.

The Futsal Eagles secured their passage into the final round following

the withdrawal of Gabon in the penultimate round, while Egypt,
perennial African champions victimised Tunisia 9-3 on aggregate to set
up a date with the Nigerian team.

Egypt won 4-1 away in Tunis two weeks ago and on Friday, completed the

rout of their north African neighbours with a 5-2 pounding in Cairo.

The first leg of the fixture between Nigeria and Egypt will take place

in Cairo on Friday, June 8 with the return leg set for the Gymnasium
of the National Institute for Sports, National Stadium, Lagos on
Sunday, June 24.

Head Coach of Futsal Eagles, former international defender Oladunni

Oyekale says his boys will regroup in Lagos on Wednesday, May 23 in
order for the team to have two-week intensive training programme
before the flight to Cairo.

“We are coming back to camp on Wednesday. I want to assure Nigerians

that we will face the task at hand with full concentration, commitment
and confidence. The Egyptians are good but they are not unbeatable,”
said Oyekale.
