Heartland win Federations Cup
Brendan Ogbu was the hero of the day as his goal late into added time ensure Heartland Fc of Owerri
retained their trophy. The final held at the Teslim Balogu Stadium in Lagos came alive as early as the
5th minute when Ezekiel Bassey scored to give Lobi Stars the lead, they continued to create chances and were in the ascendancy as the game progressed. Heartland hit back in the
37th minute through Jolly Osas. The game swung from end to end as the teams took the game to each other,
Tony Okpotu was full of running and took the game to the Heartland defenders. It was quite clear the Naze Millionares were missing their leading scorer in the competition Kabiru Umar who
was red carded in the semi final against Prime FC. The game wore out as both teams cancelled each other out.
Heartland anticipating penalties brought in substitute keeper, Chijioke Ejiogu who is renowned for saving penalty
kicks and also has a rich pedigree in this competition, However there was no need for that as Brendan Ogbu's
header deep into added time crowned Heartland FC of Owerri as the champions. In the 3rd place match played
earlier on Prime FC of Oshogbo came from behind to draw 1-1 with Kano Pillars and then triumphed 3-1 on penalty
kicks. Gambo Mohammed put the 'masu gida' boys ahead in the first half before Isah Akor equalised for Prime in
the second half and they subsequently triumphed in the penalty shoot out.
