Legends are born, legends are made. In a world where the word has been so shamelessly abused, it makes little or no sense, but there are men who must be defined with that word else, history just won't be complete.
A few days back, memories was forced to come back while a few tears escaped the eyes of some as we remembered the death of Rashidi Yekini , a great football legend who made tongues wag and hands clasped in admiration. I knew him just like every other lover of Nigeria football and yes, like the lot, I never understood him. Looking at him from the eyes of Andrew 'Kunle Aderibigbe, a man who understood him, we'll be left to wonder if sanity and decency still live in our world of football.
These are some of his words about Yekini ,the legend , in every sense of the word. Few days before Yekini passed he was seen playing football at Liberty stadium & taking a walk back to his house as he usually do. Yekini spent his off season time relaxing and socialising with people he trust in Sabo Ibadan.

Not many can say they've been on same pitch as Yekini but I have when he'll just turn up to play "set" with neighbourhood kids and he was cam, settled and dedicated. His life was about football, staying fit and avoiding the madness that now charade our football. Not many people knew him but he was anything but mad.
His death has come and gone, so is the one year remembrance and only few will truly remember him. Our football especially, the Super Eagles team has been marred with so many scandals and each time we never fail to churn out a half baked team that is yet to beat the elite class of 94'.
The news is no longer the game but the people, the NFF is now a shambolic group that tend to destroy the pride of so many Nigerians. This piece is about the man Yekini ,who gave his all to the team and yet proved that you don't need the cameras or spotlight to do that, he is one of the best to grace the pitch and as we talk about him and the others in his class, let us remember the bedrock of our football; no individual is bigger than the game and for it to succeed we must use the right talents and put our light on the proper spot.
