Ikhana takes over at Nasarawa United

Ex-Super Falcons head coach, Kadiri Ikhana, has taken charge of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Nasarawa United.

Ikhana, who has handled Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Kwara United and Sharks in the past, resumed on Wednesday and was in charge of two training sessions held in Lafia for the Solid Miners.

Chairman of Nasarawa United, Barrister Isaac Danladi, told supersport.com that Ikhana agreed to a "short-term contract" to handle the Lafia club's last 12 league matches.


Ikhana has been saddled with the responsibility of saving Nasarawa United from being relegated to the Nigeria National League (NNL) at the end of this season.

"Mr Kadiri Ikhana has resumed at the club already. His appointment is with immediate effect and he agreed to a short-term contract that will see him manage the team for the remaining part of the season.

"He met with the squad on Wednesday and took charge of the morning and evening training sessions with the players and backroom staff," said Danladi to supersport.com.

The Nasarawa United chief also disagreed with reports suggesting that former head coach, Alphonsus Dike and his assistant, Adams Usman were sacked.


He told supersport.com that the two coaches have been placed on indefinite suspension.

"Mr Alphonsus Dike and Mr Adams Usman are on indefinite suspension as recommended by the management at the moment," he disclosed.

Dike and Usman were handed a two-match deadline to salvage Nasarawa United's crumbling season before they were sent on indefinite suspension.

Nasarawa United currently have 33 points after 26 rounds of matches and also sit in the bottom four of the NPFL standings.
Ikhana's first game as Nasarawa United head coach will away to Gombe United this weekend.

Shehu Abdullahi joins Al Qadsia

Shehu Abdullahi  (1st right)being unveiled. Pic courtesy Al Qadsia Nigeria international, Shehu Abdullahi, has signed a year deal with Kuwaiti outfit, Al Qadsia Sporting Club, for an undisclosed fee. Abdullahi, 21, penned the deal with the Kuwaiti side after he rebuffed overtures from South Africa, Turkey and Saudi Arabia and a deal with Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon fell through at the last minute. The former Kano Pillars midfielder says he is comfortable with the deal as it affords him a new challenge and an avenue to put himself in the window. "I'm really happy with the deal. It's a new challenge that I am looking forward to," he told 9jafooty from his base in Kuwait. "A lot of people were surprised I chose Kuwait, but I am happy.
