Saintfiet optimistic of a good game

Malawi coach Tom Saintfiet has sounded out the battle cry as his team gets set to do battle with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier slated for this weekend.

The Belgian coach spoke exclusively to supersport.com in Abuja shortly before their departure for Calabar and is optimistic of causing an upset against their much heralded opponents.

"We have nothing to lose and that's the key, we come here as underdogs and that will surely work in our favor.
"Malawi is a small country, with a small population, but the layers are dedicated and want to do their best to represent their country.
"Yes, we respect Nigeria, thy are the African champions, but we fear no foe." Saintfiet enthused.

The much travelled coach who was earlier earmarked for the technical director post by the Nigeria Football Federation allayed talks doing the rounds that he is in for revenge after the Federations inability to ratify his appointment.

"That isn't why I am here, March 28 of last year ( date he was to be unveiled ) is in the past, I'm a professional and money isn't a motivation for me and my players

"Some of them earn considerably less than say what Nigeria or Ghana pays as bonuses, I feel anyone who plays for their countries should do so with pride and not for monetary gains.

"I love Africa that's why I'm here, the talent is there it just needs to be refined." Saintfiet said
"We go into Saturday's match with such a mindset, we are confident we can shock Nigeria.

he Flames of Malawi have a date with Nigeria at the UJ Esuene Stadium on Saturday 5th September in a Group F final group game.

Nigeria needs a point to qualify for the final phase of the Africa section of the Fifa 2014 World Cup to be hosted by Nigeria.
