Cynthia Uwak wins league title in Finland
Finland seems to have good tidings for Nigerian female footballers as another Nigerian female
footballer was decorated over the weekend by winning the Finnish elite women's league title.
A couple of weeks ago ,goalkeeper Racheal Ayebga won the Finnish women's cup with PK-35
and now Cynthia Uwak is a proud winner of the League title in Finland.
The former 1. FC Saarbrucken striker also emerged as the top goal scorer to for the 2013 season
to add to the crown she won with her team Aland United Football Club of Finland.
Cynthia Uwak spoke to 9jafooty from Finland stated the she is happy with her
performance this season and hopes to carry on with her team as they prepare to represent Finland
in the European women's Champions League next season.
"I had a wonderful campaign this season. The team really did well as a unit and we were able to grab
the league diadem.
"We finished nine points ahead of our nearest rivals, that shows how good we were and I hope we can
translate this into the Champions League next season.
More accolades have poured her way as she won numerous man of the match awards that culminated
to her winning the top scorer award for the just concluded season.
The former African Footballer of the Year attributed her success to hard work and feels she can still
do more with a view to earning a recall into the national set up.
"I thank God for giving me the opportunity to crown myself for the double glory. I won the league and
also the top scorer award. I couldn't have asked for more," the former Olympique Lyon attacker
enthused
"The season has been a fantastic one and i want to thank the fans for all their support in the course of
the season.</p>
"We hope to come back better next term and do them proud again." she added.</p>
Uwak, 27 ,hopes to be back with the female national team soon, If she is given an opportunity
to represent the country again.</p>
She is a veteran of sorts, as she represented Nigeria at three female Fifa U-20 World Cups in 2002,
2004 and 2006, as well as the Fifa World Cup in 2007.</p>
"I haven't closed the door to the national team. It gave me a push in my career. In fact the national team made me who I am today so the urge to play for Nigeria has not diminished.
"I hope to be back in the team soon so that I can impart on the younger players and help Nigeria get
back to winning ways." she concluded.
Aland United is an amalgamation of two clubs, Lemlands IF and IF Finströms Kamraterna based in Lemland,
Finland. They campaign in the elite division of the Finnish women's league.
