Sibi Gwar: I haven't moved anywhere yet!

Niger Tornadoes attacker, Sibi Gwar has rubbished rumors he is moving to the Afonja Warriors, Kwara United of Ilorin, claiming he does not know where the reports emanated from. Sibi, who has also played for Enyimba, Lobi Stars and Kwara United denied reports he has shifted base,   He spoke exclusively to 9jafooty. 9jafooty: Sibi, can you tell us more about you rumored switch to Kwara Utd? Sibi Gwar :i  have not moved anywhere, i am still a bonafide player of Niger Tornadoes, i haven't moved anywhere, i don't know how the rumors started, maybe because i was not dressed for the game with Dolphins, so people concluded i have moved. 9jafooty: But you were in touch with the officials of Kwara Utd? Sibi Gwar: Yes, but they were preliminary talks, just like any other player, nothing concrete at all, i had offers from other clubs too, but like i said, i am still loyal to Tornadoes and my aim is to push with them for a

BARCELONA: FAVORED OR JUST TOO GOOD?

Image
*This piece was fowarded to me about 2 months ago, what ever you read her has no lining to the quater-finals or semis of the UCL, just random musings from a good friend and childhood football pa, Shuaibu Umoru. BARCELONA: FAVORED OR JUST TOO GOOD? The controversies that surround Barcelona FC of Spain know no boundaries. The team has been called so many names in recent times due to referee’s calls in matches concerning this team. Names like Platini's team, Uefa team, and even fifa team. Well personally I think that is wrong as this a team that plays wonderful football and makes the game interesting and worthwhile to watch. Let's look at this team in all aspects and see whether it’s being favored by the authorities or it’s a good team. First base on these four facts that i put together I think Barcelona is a good and like other teams before them it’s their time to shine. 1. Among all the big teams in Europe Barca

VIETNAM: THE NEW MECCA FOR NIGERIAN FOOTBALL?

Image
His name hit me like a sledge hammer, I remembered him like it was yesterday, this ex-Gombe Utd attacker terrorized Nigerian Premier league defenders in the late 90’s and was such a handful on the continental stage too. I totally forgot about him until I was going through my archives and saw a graphic detail of a wonder goal he scored against Wikki Tourists, which prompted the investigative journo in me. I was able to track him down to Vietnam, and in the process, lots of surprises sprang up that made me to change lanes and do a short story on ‘our’ boys who ply their trade in Indonesia. Belgium was a huge attraction for Nigerian footballers in the mid 80’s and well into the 90’s, Stephen Keshi, who is the current National team boss was the first to make the foray into the unknown back then, now it seems Vietnam is the place to be for Nigerian players, as of last count, there was about 28 Nigerian players in the Vietnamese premier and first divisions.

Christopher Samba: Racism and two

Image
Former Blackburn defender Chris Samba has been caught up in a racist incident with Anzhi in Russia...here I get to the bottom of it. By   Nathan Car r Russian football keeps on slipping on a banana skin. Former Blackburn central defender Chris Samba, who left Ewood Park for Anzhi Makhachkala in January, became the latest player in the Russian Premier League to have a banana waved and thrown at him during a match, this time against Lokomotiv Moscow. In the past year alone, there has been three incidents like this that have occurred in Russia's top-flight. Something needs to be done, and quickly. What kind of vibe is this giving off to visitors of the Russian Premier League and Russian football in general? Where is the equality and respect to individuals? Russian football needs to be looked at seriously. The three cases in the past year   In March 2011, a supporter of Zenit waved a banana at Makhachkala's former Brazilian left-back Roberto Carlos in a fixture being played in St
