Match Day 17 of the 2018 Nigeria Professional Football League.

So you all know (or I presume so) that there will be only six games on Sunday in the NPFL because of continental engagements with our clubs. MFM, Plateau United, Akwa United and Enyimba are all involved in the CAF Confederations Cup. I wish them all the best. See graphic for all the #NPFL games.

Adi up and running with Timbers.

Nigeria striker Fanendo Adi scored his first goal of the season as he helped his MLS side Portland Timbers to a 3-2 win over Minnesota United on Saturday. The win was Timber’s first of the season as they have struggled since the start of the season with new coach Giovanni Savarese trying out new formations that haven’t yielded fruits. Adi, who is the club’s all-time top scorer was in imperious form during the game is a constant threat to the Minnesota defence. Timbers went ahead in the 20th minute when Alvas Powell powered his way through the Minnesota defence to strike a low shot into the net for a 1-0 win.

Pride of Rivers aim to trip Promise Keepers Football matches involving Rivers United and Akwa United always produce exciting spectacles. On Thursday, April 12, the two sides will serve off yet another instalment of this fast-developing rivalry and the stakes couldn’t have been any higher. The ‘Pride of Rivers’ will climb to the top half of the table (and go level, on points with their high-flying opponents) with a win on Thursday but claiming maximum points against the ‘Promise Keepers’ never comes easy irrespective of where the contest is decided. Tutored by ‘Professor of aesthetic football’, Abdul Maikaba, Akwa United is one of the most-feared teams in the division. The mantra of the Uyo club is straightforward; ‘treat the ball like a piece of Gold’ and make the opposition feel it’s ‘a piece of soap’. Maikaba, a lifelong FC Barcelona/Pep Gurdiola fan, loves possession-based football, an act he perfected at former club, Wikki Tourists as he led the unhera

Four takeaways from Niger Tornadoes vs Rangers International

Image
I was at the Bako Kontagora Stadium  in Minna on Sunday for a Match Day 16 game between Niger Tornadoes  and Rangers. It wasn't the best game I've ever watched but it was a good way to spend 90 minutes. I won't bother y'all with the match report but this is what I deduced from the game. Pacy wing play does it for Tornadoes. Tornadoes coach Hamza Abarra started with John Kim at the tip of a  three pong attack and he was supported from the flanks by Bashar Ahmad  and Ibrahim Babawo.  That combination was a problem for the Okey Odita  led Rangers defence as Tornadoes tore at them consistently using the  wings where Babawo and Ahmad flourished like a British summer. The duo ran the wings well and were a constant menace throughout the game and it was Babawo that eventually got the only goal of the game in the 17th minute.  Tornadoes look like continuing in that format as  Ammar Abdulkarim, another winger came in to add pep to the attack,  cre

Russia 2018 GoFundMe link....

Hey guys. So my FIFA 2018 World Cup accreditation came through. Nice innit. I'm so excited but here is the thing... My parent company pulled out of Naija which means funds will be hard to come by on time to get to Russia. I've done a bit of research and found out Russia 2018 will be quite expensive and that is where y'all come in. Here is a GoFundMe link where y'all can donate to make this trip happen. I've never done this before so yeah...Here we go Thanks in advance

Match Day 15 preview: Rivers United versus Heartland

Image
Rivers United and Heartland FC will re-enact their rivalry in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Wednesday, April 4 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt. The two sides go into Wednesday’s game on the back of contrasting results from match day 13. United lost by the odd goal in five to Lobi Stars while Heartland beat Nasarawa United 2-1 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri on the same day. Heartland currently occupies the fourth and final relegation spot in the NPFL and will be in desperate need of the points on Wednesday. United on the other hand, have amassed just one more point than Heartland and know that anything other than an outright victory against Heartland will see them get involved in the relegation Dog fight. Technical manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma is as experienced as they come and understands that things can change very quickly football and believes his side can climb up the standings rapidly. “Goal scoring was dif
