Fanendo Adi- World Cup dark horse?

Image
180 minutes, 9 shots at goal, three on target, six off on target with a goal from the spot don’t read good (from an attacking point of view) for any team lest the Super Eagles who panned out those stats in the two friendlies with Poland and Serbia. A 1-0 win over Poland masked how inefficient the team was in attack but it all came home to roost when they were played out of the park by Serbia and lost 2-0 at The Hive last Tuesday. It would be hasty to press the panic button yet because friendly games are meant to show the level a team is and what areas need to be sorted out. A 4-2 win over Argentina was greeted with praise from the Nigerian populace as the Eagle’s attack tore the Albiceleste to shreds. However, the Serbia game brought the Eagles back to earth.

Portland Timbers striker Fanendo Adi has spoken of his desire for another crack at the Super Eagles even as the Major Soccer League in the United States kicked off earlier this month. Adi, who is the all-time top scorer for MLS franchise side Timbers, has played in all the games his side has been involved in before the international break with an assist to boot. He joined Timbers from Danish side FC Copenhagen initially loan before making a permanent switch in 2014. Adi broke the franchise record with an impressive 46 goal which caught the attention of Samson Siasia-who was the Super Eagles coach at the time.

Taiwo Awoniyi impressing in Belgium - but his Liverpool future could rest on a friendly at Barnet

Found this piece on Liverpool Echo. Full credits to them.. This is the link to the original story- https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/taiwo-awoniyi-impressing-belgium-liverpool-14367060 I enjoyed reading it. I hope you do too. He’s the Liverpool striker you probably don’t know much about. Taiwo Awoniyi, though, hopes that is all about to change. In fact, if the Reds youngster gets his way, he could soon have a chance to show the world what he’s all about. Later this month, Nigeria will play an international against Serbia at Barnet. It’s a ‘friendly’ by name, but so much more in reality. For Awoniyi, it is potentially the biggest game of his young career.
