Nasarawa ready for second half of the season

Nasarawa United captain Baba Idris, has sounded out the battle cry to the rest of the teams in the Glo Premier League stating that his team is aiming for the league diadem and will do everything possible to get the Lafia based side back into the continent.

The tough tackling centre back also wants his team to consolidate on their performance in the first half of the season as they prepare for the second half of the 2014 season.

"We want to improve on our showing in the first half of the season and I believe the boys are eager and rearing to go,"he told supersport.com in Lafia.

"I won't be out of line to say our plan is to upsurb current leaders Kano Pillars or worse case scenario, come second and get back into continental football.

"We have a seasoned coach in Baba Ganaru Mohammed, who is experienced in getting results towards the end of the season. His successive title wins with Kano Pillars attests to that.

Idris also revealed that they are also looking to do the double this season as they prepare for their Federations Cup Round of 16 clash with Crown Football Club on Thursday in Aba.

The Solid Miners have added the Ivorian Phillipe Agoussi Okan to squad and Idris says he is sure the team will be fortified ahead of the commencement of the second half of the season.
"The squad will be fortified because we want to challenge on two fronts this season.

"Crown FC cannot stand in our way, we respect them as a team but they are a hurdle we can cross because we want to win the Federations Cup to secure our continental dreams.

"Our objective is the double, but anyone will do, either way the objective is to qualify for the Caf Champions League or the Caf Confederations Cup. That's the objective for the 2014 season,"he added.

Nasarawa United finished the first round on second position behind leaders Kano Pillars with 31 points from 19 games.
