Tasiu confident of Tornadoes in NPFL

Niger Tornadoes striker Tasiu Lawal is optimistic that his team’s win at the 2015 Nigeria National League Super Four will spur the Minna-based side to do well when the Nigeria Professional Football League commences.

Ikorodu United, Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) FC, Plateau United and Niger Tornadoes contested the NNL Super Four with the Minna team picking up the crown.

Tornadoes defeated Plateau United 1-0 to win the coveted crown and by virtue of that ate the NNL champions of the abridged 2015 season.

Lawal, who played the entirety of the final game against Plateau United at the main bowl of the National Stadium in Abuja, is confident Tornadoes can mix it up with the big boys when the elite league starts.

“I’m overwhelmed by our NNL Super Four win in Abuja and I must say it has been a wonderful season for us (Tornadoes),” Lawal said.

“All the teams were difficult. Ikorodu United, whom we played in the first game, were tough and so were Plateau United.

“I’m grateful to Allah for making it possible for us to lift the cup and I believe it will be the beginning of many other trophies to come.

“We have proven that we can play with the big boys. I believe Tornadoes can compete very well in the Glo Premier League.”
The former Dolphins attacker also dedicated the trophy to all Niger Tornadoes fans and his coach Abdullahi Biffo.

“Minna fans have waited a long time for a trophy like this and I’m glad we have given them something to smile about.
“I want to dedicate this cup to all our fans in Minna and most importantly to my coach, Abdullahi Biffo,” Lawal added.
